About Barry:
To be doing what I do for a living is absolutely remarkable.
Halfway through a traineeship as a Golf Professional at Oxley Golf Club in Brisbane, and with two other local trainees by the name of Greg Norman and Wayne Grady playing at the time, I made the decision to choose the airways over the fairways.
In 1977 I attended a two month Broadcasting Basics course at 4BH in Brisbane. It’s quite ironic that the gentleman who mentored us in the ‘Personality Development’ part of that course, was the one and only radio legend Russ Walkington, with whom I work alongside at 4CRB today. Radio became my passion, and still is.
At the completion of the course, I sent an audition to a regional Queensland radio station, was asked to present for an interview, and was successful in attaining my first announcing position. The station, 4BU Bundaberg. Radio and Television took me around Australia with stints at 4TO/NQTV/QTV Townsville – 4GR Toowoomba – 2KO Newcastle Radio 97/NRTV NSW Northern Rivers and 3MP Melbourne, before returning to my hometown of Brisbane, with stays at 4BK/4BC/4BH 4KQ and RADIO and STEREO 10. At the moment I host of the Breakfast Show on 4CRB.
For four hours every morning Monday to Friday, we connect one on one with our listerners, or as I like to call them our family members, building life-long relationships with them, and their families.
We keep you informed with Local News bulletins and traffic updates. We take you to your happy place, where the fun includes, the Secret Sound, Birthday and Anniversary shout-outs, The Passing Parade and Chicken Man.
